The Rochester chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society (SPEBSQSA) was chartered in 1977 and belongs to the
Pioneer District which includes all of lower Michigan, most of upper Michigan and parts of Ontario. For many
years it was home to the Heart of the Hills chorus. In January of 2013, the Macomb County chapter, original
home to The Guardians of Harmony (GoH) moved to Rochester and merged with the chapter there.
The Guardians of Harmony were founded to offer a demanding and challenging musical experience with a commitment
to excellence. As a testament to their commitment, the chorus won the 1990, 1998, 2002, 2005 and 2008 Pioneer
District Chorus Championships and competed in the International Barbershop Chorus Contests in 1991, 1999, 2003,
2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007. In 2013 and 2014, they placed 2nd, winning their plateau both years. In 2015 they
were awarded the "Most Improved chorus" and in 2016 the Guardians of Harmony once again became Pioneer District
Chorus Champions!.
